Tina and Hoppo were two friends from Australia. They loved to surf every day and loved lifeguarding their local spots. They rode big waves and laughed in the sun. One day, they got a message from their friend Bear. Bear was from South Africa. He was a super cool surfer too.
“I heard about a secret big wave in Cornwall!” said Bear. “It only comes when the moon is just right. Let’s go find it!”
Tina and Hoppo packed their boards and flew across the world. When they got to Cornwall, the sea was cold but beautiful. The cliffs were high, and the air smelled like salt.
“Where do we start?” asked Hoppo.
Just then, a boy popped out from behind a rock. He had sandy hair and bright eyes.
“Hi! I’m Bodey,” he said. “Are you looking for the Reef of the Roaring Wave?”
Tina’s eyes got big. “Yes! That’s it!”
“I know where it is,” said Bodey with a grin. “But first, we have to find the Mermaid of the Tides. She shows the way.”
“A mermaid? Really?” Bear asked.
Bodey nodded. “She only comes out when the tide is low and we have to whittle her a gift. Follow me!”
So the four friends climbed over rocks, splashed through tide pools, and even slid down a muddy hill. They laughed and played as they searched for the mermaid. They sat on the rocks whittling some presents for her from sticks. They made a spoon, a special spear and a fork.
Suddenly, they saw something sparkle in the sea.
“It’s her!” shouted Bodey.
A mermaid with long silver hair and a shiny tail swam up to them. She sang a soft song, and the water shimmered like magic. Then, she pointed to a hidden path behind some rocks.
“That’s the way to the reef,” she said. “But only brave surfers can ride the wave.”
The friends thanked the mermaid and paddled out together. The sea was calm, but then—WHOOSH! A giant wave began to rise!
“Here it comes!” yelled Tina.
One by one, they caught the wave. They rode together, flying across the water like sea birds. The wave was big, blue, and beautiful.
They cheered and high-fived in the water. “That was the best wave ever!” said Hoppo.
Afterward, they sat on the sand, watching the sunset.
“Thanks for showing us, Bodey,” said Bear.
“Anytime,” said Bodey. “Next time, I’ll take you to the Cave of the Singing Shells.”
Everyone laughed.
And so, the surfers made a new friend, rode the secret wave, and had a magical day they’d never forget.
